Objectives :

To give 3rd year engineering students the ability:
- To understand what an Information System is (IS)
- To gain awareness of the role of a project owner on an IT (IS) project, and to introduce it to this role=how to formalize a requirement in a given field with our IS business process team
- Construct and interpret conceptual, logical and physical data models
- Become proficient in using a standardized database query language (Structured Query Language - SQL)

Contents :

Information system and database design
- Information Systems (definition, origin, issues)
- Design methods (Merise Entity-Relationship E/R)
- Introduction to DBMS Models (Database Management System), with advanced study of RDBMS (R=Relational)
- SQL (Structured Query Language)

Introduction to Microsoft ACCES, and implementation of a case study
- Introduction to working with a Database Management System (Access)
- Construction and verification of a Conceptual Data Model and a Logical Data Model
- Build user interfaces for data entry, modification and query of a data base
- Introduction to queries: Interrogate a database using selection criteria
- Advanced queries: Advanced Database manipulation using selection criteria

NOTE: IFA alternates will complete a company training dossier (Database Management System – DBMS: 2 Ects)

Teaching methods :

Alternating classes covering the fundamental concepts, Seminars (TD) for implementing conceptual and logical models and showing their professional contribution to an Information System (IS) and Practical Work (TP) to implement the conceptual work.
The group work is the priority in the Seminars (TD) as well as in the case study work

The 1st year of Master of Science in Engineering includes common core courses, majors and inter-major courses.

Majors: students will choose only one major according to his background

• Vine and Wine: sustainable productions and international market (ViVi)
• Food processing, food science, nutrition and quality (TAQ)
• Crop production and agroecology (PVA)
• Environmental and sustainable Engineering (IED)
• Animal production: livestock farming and livestock industry (PA)
• Business management, corporate consultancy and international trade and Markets (PCE/CMI)

Common core courses (CC) are engineering tools and Social Sciences. All of them are compulsory.

Inter-major modules (MIM): students will choose only one according to their major
